Crafting for Valentine’s Day with the toddlers and preschoolers in my daycare is always so much fun. Our craft room is always a sea of pink and red at this time of year. There are hearts and sparkles and gems and jewels every where.
The hooligans have been working for days to make the gifts and homemade cards that they’ll give to their parents and grandparents this Valentines Day.
Today, I’m sharing 6 of my favourite Easy Valentine’s crafts for little kids. These crafts are all great for home or for daycare or the classroom.
Most of these cards and gifts and decorations are easy enough for toddlers to make, but older kids will love some of the techniques we’ve used here. Decoupage, wax-resist and melted crayon art are always popular with all ages.
I hope you’ll try some of these creative ideas with your own hooligans this February!
6 Easy Valentine’s Crafts for Toddlers and Preschoolers
Valentine’s Votive Candle Holders:
Everybody loves a little decoupage, right? Click through to see our 4 year olds making these Valentine’s Votives. Perfect for a candle-lit Valentine’s dinner.
Melted Crayon Art:
Have you ever made art with Melted Crayons? It’s an awesome art process that never fails to impress me. The older kids grate, the younger ones sprinkle the shavings, and I pop them in and out of the oven. This melted crayon heart has been hanging in our toy room for 2 years now. I love it!
3-Ingredient Puffy Paint Hearts:
Homemade puffy paint is really easy to make using a few kitchen ingredients and microwave. We used the process last year to make these puffy paint Valentine’s cards for parents and grandparents. These hearts would also look pretty strung into a bunting.
Tissue Paper Window Art:
This was, hands-down, my favourite Valentine’s project last year. We turned our living room window into a “stained glass” window with these tissue paper hearts! If you’ve never tried this contact (sticky) paper project, you HAVE to give it a try. It’s so cool! Your big kids will love the process as much as the little ones do!
Tissue Paper Valentine’s Wreath:
This simple tissue paper Valentine’s wreath is one of our easiest projects ever, but look at how cute it is. The toddlers in my daycare love anything to do with crumpling tissue paper. The texture, the sound and the process is just so fun for little hands.
Tin-Foil Tissue Heart:
I think we made these tin-foil tissue-paper heart ornaments about 4 years ago, and they’re still one of my all-time favourite Valentine’s crafts. They’re so sparkly and reflective and pretty.
