we like Hoot, Chomp, Flush, and Scat (4 books, not related) by Carl Hiassen. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. My son likes the Red Wall series and the 39 Clues series. Xanth series by Piers Anthony.

There is another John Flanagan Series (Rangers Apprentice) called the Brotherband Chronicles. My son loved them!
I will also add Harry Potter of course!

Thank you for both of these lists! As an educational consultant for a children’s book company, I get asked often to help pick books for reluctant readers and they are mostly boys. My son, like yours, prefers me to read aloud the really long ones and we have had some great adventures together! To encourage independent reading, he has loved several of the series that are available through my company. We are practically swimming in books over here – from classics to pop culture to non-fiction to biographies. We truly love reading together and separately. It does my heart good to see these kinds of lists!
