Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope your crumble was delicious though! This has never happened for me. I just made my first batch of the season the other day, and they turned out well, like they always do. Did you use fresh baking ingredients? Baking soda/baking powder, for example, can lose their leavening abilities over time.

Do fledglings stay close together after leaving the nest? Had a robins nest above my garage lights and all three babies were thriving. The day came that they fledged, but I’ve only been able to spot one of them and it doesn’t look like mom and dad are feeding anyone else. Is it possible that the other two are around close by?

If your bubbles are being impacted by sunny, dry weather, add more glycerin. It is a humectant which means that holds onto moisture, preventing things from drying out. As far as the baking powder goes- baking power is made of baking soda and corn starch. If you only have baking soda on hand, there really is no reason why it wouldn’t work. You can always add a smidge more corn starch to compensate the ratio but I can’t imagine the precision of the bubble recipe is that tight.

Would baby oil work?

I am gluten free and I make this cake with Bob’s Red Mill 1 for 1 GF flour. It turns out beautifully with no modifications to the recipe or baking time. I will be making it this week with froen rhubarb, as it’s too early here for fresh. Great recipe!

My icing skills are very subpar so I tend to drizzle a bit of caramel sauce over the top(s) of the cake(s) to take the focus off of my messing frosting. If my husband liked peanut butter flavored sweets, I’d one day like to make a peanut butter frosting with a dark chocolate drizzle. I bet that would be lovely for us peanut butter and banana combo lovers.

If you want to make sure they are dry and you are using glass balls not plastic. turn them upside down in an old cupcake pan. Set your stove to 200 and put the pan in for a half hour to an hour. Let them cool before handling them. Works great.

To answer several comments above, I have used muffin tins to let these rise and they come up as beautiful high top buns. If that is your desired end us, do it! This recipe really is so flexible. For the person asking about adding cheese, I would suggest adding it by selecting the mix-in option if your machine has one. Now I don’t suggest adding the cheese into the small dispenser, but watching the machine for “when” that time to add comes along, then quickly open lid and add in.

Either will work well, Ashley. When using liquid glue, I like to pour it into a small container, and let the littles apply it with a paint brush.

I think 1/2 cup of cornstarch is too much. half of it won’t disolve no matter how long you stir it (I put it on
a magna mix for 4 hours!), and half of the rest settles out after a few hours. I think maybe a tablespoon or two would be plenty.

Anyhow, we’ll try it both ways and see what happens.

**note: even if you don’t like chocolate. Trust me on this. Just add it , my sister doesn’t like anything with chocolate in it but told me that this recipe needs it and it goes so well. Dark only. Also as the recipe owner states. It needs the salt!

Bananas are actually a great substitute for eggs. If you use 5 bananas instead of 4, you can remove the eggs in the recipe without affecting the taste. I’ve gotten used to vegan baking for a friend, and this makes a great vegan cake if you swap out dark chocolate for the milk chocolate as well.

In the first instructions, you’ve typed:

“For large pizza, bake for 15-20 mins”

In the 2nd part:

“For large pizza, bake for 15-29 mins” 😛

I use 3 medium sized bananas which gets just over 1 cup (I’ve found most recipes use 1 cup). I also add an extra 1/4 cup of flour, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp vanilla.

Very first attempt was perfect. Second attempt I added chocolate chips and the top of the loaf was soggy (still tasted great), I’m now on my third attempt to see if it yields the same perfect loaf as the first one. Kind of wish I had noted the humidity that day!

None of my attempts have used walnuts. I’m now thinking my batter has always been wet is because of my lack of walnuts and chocolate chips. Thankfully I know what the batter should look like, so was able to add extra flour while it was mixing.

Yes, it does the first rise in the bread machine. If you use the dough setting, it will just beep when it’s gone through kneading and rising stages. Then you remove it, and follow the directions in my post, to shape the rolls, 2nd rise and bake.

Made your banana cake this evening for my son’s birthday. It was a huge hit with everyone.

I made lactose free Buttermilk using lemon juice and lactose free half and half. Also transfered to a cooling rack for the freezer cooling as the only 9×13 oven safe dish I have is my casserole crock pot lol Didn’t want to risk it braking with the sudden temp change. It worked great and still locked in all the moisture.

I followed the directions exactly, and my bread machine’s dough setting is also 1 hour 30 minutes, but my rolls turned out much larger than yours. I could actually only fit 11 in the 9×13 dish. Any idea why that was, and does it matter? Also, when I cut the dough into 16 pieces I found it a bit hard to roll them into balls. Where they were cut was nice and sticky but the outside was already a tiny bit dry and so trying to get it into a ball shape was a bit of a challenge. Is there a trick to that? And is it ok to knead them a bit when you’re rolling them to get them round or will that cause problems later? I’m totally new to bread-making so any guidance you can give is appreciated. Hmm. That’s really strange. We’ve made these lots of times over the years, and they’ve never dried that quickly. They generally take hours to dry. I’ve even forgotten to poke holes initially and remembered a little while later, and done it then. Was your air temperature exceptionally warm? Or is it possible you used less water or more of the powders than the recipe called for?

I think you’d be better to look for a dinner roll recipe that’s specifically developed to be gluten free., Glen. I’m not sure how this recipe would do if you adapted it to be GF.

I just made these and they drying to fast I couldn’t get a hole in them without breaking them. We planned on painting them but we can’t even move them without them breaking.

We did this in 4th grade with an amazing teacher who always had something new and creative in her classroom. I was fairly certain we used baby food jars and a cube of ice, of course we weren’t after the buttermilk necessarily. I could be wrong but it definitely accomplishes the agitating and pours off with everything else while getting it cold!? I’m no scientist, but that’s what I’m going to try. I couldn’t remember what type cream, that’s how I found this post. I won’t say or try to figure how long ago that was but it’s def great to see there are teachers still doing stuff like this in their classrooms. Ty for the information, and thank you for what you do. I’m sure it’s a challenge and a blessing. They do not pay the majority of you near what you are worth!

When measuring your flour, don’t just pour it into the measuring cup. Take flour 1 fork full at a time and sift it into the measuring cup. Then lightly use the tips of the fork tines to level it across the top of the measuring cup. Don’t shake the measuring cup to level it. This should help getting a more accurate measurement with the gluten free flour. Also, I have found the King Arthur brand to be one of the best I have ever tried. I hear Better Batter is even better than King Arthur, however it is also much more expensive. Robin Hood did NOT work well for baking in my experience. I hope this helps.

I would try and make it as close to class time as possible. The clay does dry quite quickly when exposed to air, so to transport it to class, I would roll it into a ball and wrap it tightly in cling-wrap. Good luck and have fun with it!!

Peppermint oil can help to remove odors from the clothes and deodorize sweaty workout clothes.

I think the colour would leach out into the water.

Ours drop down to the deck too, and it’s quite a drop, but they always just hop and flutter away. They’re very resilient. Some of them actually get the hang of fluttering their wings and manage to land out in the grass or even fly out into the yard.

With some cakes, if one of the ingredients will help the milk ferment, baking powder is not required. I’m guessing the rhubarb is the ingredient that does that in this recipe.

I have used the batter to make cupcakes, but I haven’t recorded the time. I just kept my eye on them and when they started smelling yummy, I tested with a toothpick, and put them back in and tested again 5 or 10 minutes later. You can always skip the low temp/long bake time, and just bake them at 350 for the amount of time that regular banana muffins take.

I haven’t tried it, but I’m sure you could!

Nail polish or Sharpie Markers would be my suggestions, Ashley.

For cooking and baking, I usually mix my own baking powder using 1/4 tsp baking soda and 1/2 tsp cream of tartar…because I always run out of baking powder, but baking soda comes in huge bags at Costco 😉
Has anyone tried a baking soda+cream of tartar mixture in place of baking powder with this bubble mixture recipe?

I have made these gluten-free before. Just use the exact same amount of a regular gluten-free AP flour substitute and they turn out the same.

I do some glass mosaics for outside and I *only* use the stuff the construction people use because I want it to be super strong ~ and the awesome part is the clear kind is completely clear and doesn’t show through my glass and it will stick almost anything to glass strongly. It is Clear Silicone waterproof sealant… but that stuff’s also the best glass glue I’ve ever used.

I followed some other comments. Cut the sugar to less than a cup, added half walnuts and half milk chocolate chips and baked at 350 for about 45 minutes. Perfect!

If you want Tui’s in your garden try a tui drink of water and sugar they love it 1 cup of sugar to 1 litre of water.

I’ve made these twice now and they’re super wet and sticky but they come out DELICIOUS. Anyway, I think I just figured it out why they’re wet and sticky—your recipe calls for all-purpose flour but your website appears to be Canadian so guessing you live in Canada. Canadian all-purpose flour is required to have much more protein than ours down here in the states. I will switch to bread flour next time!

I did reduce the sugar by 0.5 cups (so 1.5 cups total) with very ripe bananas & it is still perfect. I prefer it without the icing, but this icing recipe is also fantastic…it’s my go-to for icing carrot cake.

Giving these a try tonight to have with our beef roast and roasted veggies… will let you know how they turn out! Super excited !

I made cupcakes this weekend with this recipe. I baked them for 40 min. I was able to get 21 cupcakes from it. Put them in the freezer as directions say. They tasted exactly the same as if I used the 9×13. Same moist cake. I’ve made this recipe dozens of times. Love it.

We raised a 2 day old robin I did call he rangers office (I was living in PA at the time) and he told me to leave it, it was against the law to hand raise it and that I could go to jail. Oh well, he would have to find me first! He did extremely well and after he grew up he would come to our deck every season. All we had to do was say Cheep Chirp in our back yard and if he was around he would fly to our deck/us, so freakin amazing. He’d land on our hand or especially my oldest s head. I have a pic at home (I’m at work now). I’ll see if I can upload it tmrw.It was a great experience for my children. My gram always raised birds or other creatures if they needed assistance.

Same thing happened to me in my Oster. Chips melted, no banana taste, and it was very dry at 1 hour 20 minutes on quick bread setting. Maybe there’s a different setting to use on this machine that would work out well?

Good lesson from childhood- if you don’t have anything nice to say- don’t say anything at all. If you don’t like it, don’t make it. I am sure my daycare kids will enjoy this craft. We will make it this morning. Thanks Happy Hooligans for idea!

Go for it. I believe yeast needs a certain amount of sugar in order to rise properly though, so you may want to do some googling first.

I’m not sure how big your bread machine is, April, but mine definitely isn’t large enough to accommodate this recipe doubled.

What a creative idea!

I used K-cups to make chairs for my Granddaughter’s LOl dolls. I covered the cup with printed duck tape and added a bead and a washer to make the base. Perfect size.

Anyone having trouble with bubbles popping too fast in the sunlight, add some ice to your bucket of bubble solution or refrigerate it first.
Cooling the solution stops evaporation happening so fast, and the bubbles last long enough for a good chase around the yard before they pop!

Kids and dogs and so called adults all running around my yard right now making noise and enjoying themselves.

This is the best kind of game. One where they run round faster than i do! Thank you!

I’m not sure what went wrong, Nancy, but I find it surprising that it would go from nowhere near done to very dry in 10 minutes. Something seems a bit off there. I’m sorry it didn’t turn out for you. I’ve been making this cake for about 20 years, and I’ve never had a problem with it. There must have been a reason for yours not turning out properly, but I’m not able to determine what it would’ve been.

Hi Brenda, My 7 and up age group love making God’s Eyes. Younger kids can make them too, of course, but their weaving/patterns won’t be perfect. That doesn’t matter though because it’s all about the experience and the process. 🙂

I don’t know what soda crystals are, Kirsty, so I really can’t say if they’ll work or not. I would do some googling to see if you can find any similar experiments that use them.

Hi Megan, I’m so happy you like this idea. Unfortunately, I don’t recall just how much yarn it takes to make one bowl. Several feet for sure. If you can pick a bunch of yarn up at a thrift shop, you can buy quite a bit for the fraction of the price of buying new. That’s where I get all of the yarn for our daycare crafts. You might try making just one bowl as a trial, and then take it apart and measure how much you used to get an idea of how much you’ll need for your group.

Hmmm. I’m not sure why that happened, Bonnie. I’ve made this cake so many times, and it’s never sunk. I just did some googling, and here are some common reasons that a cake sinks in the middle. Cooling too quickly is one of the reasons, but given the success that I (and many other readers) have had with this recipe, the quick cook down can’t be the reason. My cake sunk in the middle while cooling in the freezer, is that normal? I tested it’s done ness a few places all over the cake and it was cooked thru thoroughly.

I didn’t say not to use a grocery store brand. I said you must use 100% pure Maple Syrup. There are many brands of this available in grocery stores. I happen to use PC real maple syrup.

Perhaps you used a different type of pudding mix? If you scroll through the comments, you’ll see the recipe has worked for many others.

Hopefully this will help soothe your worries from both sides of the fence…Actually, your not supposed to make snow cream until the second round of snow comes thru… Snow forms like a net as it falls through the atmosphere and collects pollutants as it falls to the ground. Thats why you ALWAYS wait for the second round of snowfall before you gather your snow, by then the first snow has had a chance to clean the atmosphere around where you live from pollutants and any nasty particles that can come from nearby factories etc. My grandmother has been making snow cream for over 65 years and that’s the first tip she taught us… Also along with the ingredients you already have listed most snow cream recipes also call for 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 beaten raw egg. ( optional )! I know “raw egg”? Yucky.. but actually it gives the snow cream a very creamy texture, and believe it or not… most ice creams are made with eggs. Thats why “custard” ice cream is so much creamier than regular ice creams. and for over 40 years me nor my siblings have ever gotten sick a single time and we make it every year, 3 to 4 times a year! Egg or no egg, adding the sugar will make you fall in love with it all over again. I hope this will help you to decide to give it another try and not have to worry about eating any dirt when you make your next batch.. even the dirt you can’t see!!

A meter is the common unit of measure that is used all over the world except for the United States, Myanmar and Liberia. We are so backward for not changing when Ben Franklin tried to get us to do it.. A yard is 3 feet or 36 inches, while a meter is about 39 inches or 100 centimeters.

Sticky, wet dough. This happened to me and if my grocery store had frozen Parker house rolls, I would have never tried again. It was a giant mess that I pulled out of the machine and just threw away.

Here’s what caused my problem. I originally followed the recipe exactly, used warm water and put the yeast in with the rest of the ingredients.

Solution (if you have a Panasonic machine) … use cold water and put the yeast in the dispenser on the top of the machine. Run the dough cycle and it comes out perfectly!

Hmm. That’s strange considering you used new yeast, Natasha. There must have been something off with one of the measurements. A standard cup here is the equivalent to 250 mls. I really hope it works for you next time. They’re so good!

This is amazing! Family LOVED it!! The homemade cool whip was easy and so much better than store bought. I added the extra 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to the lemon pudding mix– wonderful tart taste! The store didn’t have instant pudding so I bought 2 big boxes of cook and serve kind and it was just perfect.

Not sure what I did wrong but my dough was so sticky that it would not form. I persisted and made sure I rolled it in flour to help form them but they were too wet in consistency so spread out rather than rising. When baked they were flat….but tasted amazing!

I used new yeast so know that was not out of date so not sure what the issue was?

Can you let me know the measurements in ml and g in case I added too much water please?

Definitely want to try again.

When I was a child hod age, the day after Thanksgiving was always when we pulled out the Christmas decorations too. I think I was more excited about that than Thanksgiving itself!

I guess the hot water is used to mix or dilute the glue solution faster or more effectively than not mentioning it and having room or cold temperature water?

I can’t say for sure, Shawna. I’ve only used oil. I would do some googling about replacing oil with butter in a cake recipe. It might be ok or it might seriously affect the results. Wish I could be of more help. Sorry!

That’s a good question, Angela. It might but I’m not sure that the glitter would free fall as nicely as it does when you add it separately. Plus, you can add a lot more when you add it separately. If you give it a try, I’d still be inclined to add some extra glitter to the bottle.

It’s hard to say as there are so many factors that could contribute – beating time, difference in oven temps, temperature of ingredients etc. If you halve the sugar, I’m quite certain the cookies won’t turn out the same, as baking is a science, and the results are 100% dependent on the ingredients and the amounts used. They might turn out, I’m just not sure how different they’ll be with half the sugar.

May be your baking crust to long. If over baked it’ll do that. It happened to me when it got a little overly golden.. But dug it out for this recipe is one of our favorites in all flavors!! Been making variety of this since early 70’s.
