Wonderful, Laurie! I’m glad you guys had so much fun. Great thinking, drying the rice in the microwave. I hope your real donuts turned out great!

Thank you. We even had fun mixing colours to get a donut brown b/c we didn’t have any brown paint. Only a couple months ago I threw out our coloured rice that had been around for 2 years. So we coloured just what we needed using liquid water colour and then dried it in the microwave. It worked and she had bright pink and purple sprinkles. Tomorrow we attempt to make real donuts!

We use acrylic craft paint for most of our projects, Erica. I’ve updated the post with a link.

Yes, absolutely! The “bones” of our day always look the same: free play, craft, snack, outdoor time, adventure, lunch, stories, nap, outdoor time and then home, but what we do within those blocks of time are very flexible, and often unstructured. Having that routine provides comfort for the children, as they can guage where we are in our day according to what we’re doing, i.e. they know that outdoor time follows snack, stories and nap follow lunch, and hometime follows our outdoor play after naptime. 🙂
